During the last session of the Hawaii State Legislature, House Bill 167, HD3, SD2 was passed, changing the requirements for teens desiring a Drivers License.
Those teens who did not get their license before January 1, 2001 are now required to complete a state-approved Driver Education course taught by a State Certified Instructor. The course consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction over a six week period and 10 hours of actual road instruction.
In a driver's education program, the students are taught the traffic laws, what the signs mean, the responsibility of driving, the impairment of alcohol and drugs, the attitude of driving and defensive driving, according to Marilyn Kali, spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation.
No one under the age of 18 will be able to get a license without certification through an approved course. The typical costs of the complete driver training course can total $500$600 per student.
Through a special arrangement with "HIS Driving Institute, LLC" C.E.I. will host an ongoing series of classes with discounted rates for C.E.I. Member families. Classes are tentatively scheduled to begin as early as April 1, 2001. Class sizes will be limited and reservations will be taken starting in mid-February on a first-come/first-served basis. Once the schedule and exact fees have been determined, a PayPal on-line payment button will be added to this site, and you will be able to pay by Credit/Debit Card on-line.
If you wish to be placed on a list of those interested, e-mail driversed@ceischool.org . There is no obligation.
